Patch Factor

BodyBoutique's Patch Factor is the World's Foremost Detox patch – designed to restore good health and detoxify your body while you sleep.

Patch Factor represents the synthesis of traditional healing and conventional science, the synergy of several complementary therapies and a combination of Oriental and Western concepts of health and well-being.

Based on elements of acupressure, reflexology, far infrared energy, essential oils, pyroligneous acid (wood vinegar), crystal healing and the use of poultices to create a product that is safe and, when used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise, is effective for the entire family.

Patch Factor actually works while you're asleep. Apply Patch Factor to the soles of your feet before retiring and wake-up feeling refreshed, invigorated and ready to start a new day. Comes in a complete 5-10 day programme of 10 patches - a full 5 day detoxification programme when used on the soles of both feet or a 10 day treatment programme for a specific ailment using one patch on the area of discomfort i.e. shoulder, back, knee, elbow etc.

Patch Factor detoxifies your body while you sleep. When you peel Patch Factor poultices off the soles of your feet in the morning, you can actually see some of the impurities that have been slowing you down and affecting your health.

When you use the 5-10 day course you can help invigorate the body, reduce aches and pains, promote a general feeling of well-being and reduce the feelings of fatigue and stress. With Patch Factor good health may be just a few night’s sleep away.

Patch Factor is an excellent addition to your ongoing health maintenance regimen. This is a product that you and your family will love, regardless of age or gender. We are confident that you will find Patch Factor highly effective in helping you to maintain good overall health in a convenient and practical way.

Natural and effective, your whole family will love this product. While many detoxification programmes require ingesting large amounts of supplements, with Patch Factor all you need is a good night’s rest. Patch Factor makes detoxification simple and stress free. It’s really that easy!

Patch Factor uses pyroligneous acid (purified Mandarin wood vinegar) with selected crystal powders; all working synergistically to create an effective treatment. The wood used for making the purified vinegar is harvested from a renewable source. There are many different grades of wood vinegar, extracted from different types of wood. Unlike other detox patches only the highest quality, purest grade is selected, tested and used in Patch Factor poultices. That means Patch Factor contains only the pro-bio elements that are active and health enhancing.

History

Oriental Medicine is at least three thousand years old. Written evidence from China dates back to about 1,500 BC, and archaeological evidence of medicinal herbs and acupuncture needles dates back to about 5,000BC. Sometime between 400 BC and 200 BC, the Huang Di Nei Ching was written.

This is a text that describes a conversation between the Emperor Haung Di and his court physician Chi Po in about 3,000 BC. Here the Emperor asks numerous health-related questions and his loyal physician answers them with lengthy explanations. There is no evidence that these conversations actually took place and it is more likely that this story was used as a framework to record and transmit medical principles and theory. Prior to this the art was passed on, often in secret, purely by word of mouth.

The Huang Di Nei Ching describes the use of a variety of modalities. Dietary therapy and nutrition as the first line of treatment, especially for internal illnesses. Next, herbal therapy including the use of poultices was emphasised. Following that, external therapies of acupuncture, moxibustion, massage, reflexology, breathing, and exercise techniques were recommended for treating external injuries and for attempting to indirectly treat internal illnesses.

Reflexology was therefore an important part of diagnosis and treatment in Oriental medicine from the early days. It is thought to have originally arisen in ancient Egypt and was refined by the Chinese who used ‘maps’ or ‘zones’ of the soles of the feet that corresponded to parts of the body to diagnose internal ailments. Reflexology was brought to the West in the early 1900’s via Russia and has become a recognised science based on the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body.  Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way and act as a type of preventative maintenance as well as a therapy.

The modern history of reflexology is rooted in research about the reflex in Europe and Russia 125 years ago. The idea that a stimulus applied to the body produces a response was utilised as a therapeutic tool by British physicians and researchers who applied heat, cold, plasters and herbal poultices to one part of the body to influence another.

Russian physicians of the early 1900s followed the reflex research of Nobel Prize winner Ivan Pavlov to create reflex therapy. Their basic idea, to influence reflexes and thus brain-organ dynamics, survives as a medical practice today. To physician-researchers, such as Vladimir Bekterev who coined the word ‘reflexology’ in 1917, an organ experiences illness because it receives the wrong operating instructions from the brain. By interrupting the body's misguided instructions, the reflex therapist prompts the body to behave in a better manner. Conditioning of better behaviour is achieved by the application of a series of such interruptions.

Such an ‘interruption’ can be accomplished by breaking down the toxins that accumulate in the nerve endings in the soles of the feet. This can be accomplished by sometimes-painful manipulation or by the application of a dry herbal or wood vinegar poultice. For this Patch Factor uses pyroligneous acid from Mandarin wood which is distilled by heating it to around 100°C. The distillate is a yellow/brown liquid, the quality of which is determined, in part, by how well the wood was dried prior to processing. This raw condensate produced from distillation is the wood vinegar known as pyroligneous acid.

Such pyroligneous acid is then further refined by a second distillation to yield a food grade version that is suitable for use in health products. It is this double distillation process that makes the vinegar in Patch Factor safe and effective.

The 1996 China Reflexology Symposium Report found foot reflexology to be 93.63% effective in treating 63 disorders. After an analysis of 8,096 clinical cases, Dr. Wang Liang reported that reflexology was significantly effective (the cure) in 48.68% of all the cases, and an effective/improved treatment in 44.95% of remaining cases.

The potential benefits of Patch Factor may include:

§ A simple, effective and stress-free detoxification programme
§ Soothing relief of strains, aches and pains
§ Relief of oedema and the pain from rheumatism, gout and arthritis
§ Improved circulation and respiration
§ Better sleep, rest and recuperation
§ Improved injury recovery and convalescence

How Patch Factor works

When the Patch Factor dry poultice is placed in contact with the skin and held in place for a number of hours, it can promote improved blood circulation and detoxification. The typical contact points on the body are the soles of the feet. It can also be used in areas where there is discomfort, swelling or pain. For example: Patch Factor can easily be used on the shoulders, back, knee, ankle, elbow or other areas of the body.

Patch Factor is a poultice that, in addition to effecting detoxification, provides a number of additional benefits:

Patch Factor utilises the Far Infrared Energy (Sometimes called Far Infra Red FIR), absorbed by certain materials, to stimulate the meridian points. FIR has been researched and used for many years in Japan, China, the US and Sweden for a wide variety of conditions such as muscle sprains, strains, peripheral vascular diseases, arthritis, shoulder stiffness, period pains etc. One effect of FIR is that it may replicate a cardiovascular training effect even with people who are temporarily immobile or confined to a wheelchair and who are unable to exercise in the conventional way. Research in the early 1980s led to the idea that infrared stimulation of the cardiovascular system could be a possible means of maintaining cardiovascular conditioning – in other words exercise without movement by chemically stimulating certain elements of the metabolism.

Tourmaline and Germanium powders provide the essential benefits from the negative ion effect of these crystals, which are recognised by Oriental medicine as being beneficial to promoting physical well-being.
Sorbitol acts as a humidity sink, trapping for moisture and is used in the manufacture of the powered Pyroligneous Acid. Patches are also treated with Menthol, which provides a soothing and antiseptic effect as well as a fresh fragrance.

The patch supports better detoxification through all the normal body functions as well as into the patch. The reasons for this are that when the patches are placed on the soles of the feet, the reflex points are stimulated, supporting the whole body circulation. A draining effect also occurs for toxins, which have built up in the body. The patches can therefore have a dual function in
stimulating the body’s circulation and drawing out toxins.

The patch can be used on localised areas of discomfort such as the shoulder, back, neck, knees etc. These are not reflex zones and do not have a high concentration of meridian points and patches are therefore likely to be quite dry after use and not discoloured. This is because there is little to draw from these areas, unless there is injury or abdominal fluid accumulation for the patch to draw out. However, the patch does not need to be ‘wet’ to have worked. Even though it may not draw out toxins from these areas, it will still stimulate circulation.

It is always best to use the patches on the feet for their full detoxifying effect before moving on to local areas of discomfort. You should continue to use the patch on these areas until you feel the benefit and then switch back to the maintenance mode of using the patches on the feet for the 5-day detox programme every month.

Safe and Effective

Patch Factor uses a special powdered and purified pyroligneous acid that is free of harmful substances. BodyBoutique’s powdered Mandarin wood vinegar is made by a unique process to retain higher levels of vinegar - up to 50% of the total weight of powder in the bag. This high concentration of vinegar is necessary to produce the beneficial far infra red effect and ensure a high level of active ingredients giving longer lasting benefits.

Generally the effect from the poultice ceases when all the powder in the bag is wet. Each poultice contains 5 grams of high quality, natural ingredients. With the use of a more absorbent bag material, each poultice will normally remain effective for at least 7 hours. After effective absorption of toxins and moisture from the body, the particles within the poultice can turn a deep brown colour.

Instructions

For overall health, apply Patch Factor to the soles of the feet (both feet) at night before sleeping. Patch Factor may also be applied to the shoulders or joints where there is discomfort. For maximum utilisation and benefit, keep patches on for at least 7 hours. Use the patches in the daytime for additional relief from discomfort. Try to drink plenty of water (ideally 2 litres – 4 pints per day) when using the patches as this considerably enhances the effects of detoxification.

Tear open the cellophane packet containing the patch. Remove the white plastic adhesive covers from the sticky side of the patch. Place the patch bag containing powder nearest the skin to the desired location and press the adhesive edges to the skin to ensure close contact. The powder in the patch bag usually turns a deeper brown colour after use.

On certain parts of the body and depending upon the user, you may find that even after several hours in use the colour of the powder in the bag remains unchanged. This is not uncommon where there is no moisture absorption or limited toxicity but there is still considerable benefit from the FIR effect from placing the patch on the desired location.

When placing on the feet, apply the patch lengthways (narrow part nearest toes) and point toes down on application to ensure the patch is pulled tight when the foot is relaxed. Be sure to stand on the patches before retiring to bed to fix the patch tightly to the skin. Use the reflexology map to prioritise particular areas for treatment or place in the centre of the foot for overall detoxification.

Each box contains a course of 10 patches - a full 5-day detoxification programme when used on the soles of both feet or a 10-day treatment programme for a specific ailment using one patch on the source of pain or discomfort. Recommended for general use once a month as part of a maintenance programme for good health.

Glossary

Acupressure

Acupressure is an ancient Chinese healing method that involves applying pressure to certain meridian points on the body to relieve pain. The human body has twelve ‘meridians’ that carry energy throughout the body. These meridians can be found in the hands and feet and connect to the brain, and then connect to the organ associated with the specific meridian. Acupressure deals with all the aspects of a person as a whole: body, emotions, mind, and spirit as one, not as separate parts. It relaxes muscular tension and balances the vital life forces of the body.

Crystal Healing

Since the 1980s the healing phenomena that some call ‘crystal consciousness’ has spread from California and has now become popular all over the world. Paranormal healing and restorative powers have been attributed to crystals and gem stones which are said to restore health by drawing on the natural healing powers of the body. Crystals are claimed to resonate in such a way that they stimulate the aura, which in turn brings healing to the body. The healing effect is enhanced if the crystal is placed on the chakra areas of the body. It has been found that certain crystals appear to have an empathy with each chakra and will help to cure illness and enhance a sense of well-being.

Essential Oils

Highly concentrated plant extracts obtained through the distillation or cold pressing of flowers, seeds, berries, roots and barks or citrus rind expression. Essential Oils are the most potent form of herbal medicine and are classified as the ‘active ingredients’ to any Aromatherapy formulation.

Far Infrared Energy

Commonly known as FIR (Far Infra Red), this is electromagnetic radiation having the longest wavelengths in the infrared region, between approximately 50 and 1,000 micrometers. Among the total spectrum of solar rays, the FIR waves are the safest and the most beneficial. In the visible light spectrum, short wave lengths are reflected away from the body. When near waves (NIR) heat organic substances, the surface gets hotter than the interior and conduction from the surface heats the interior. By contrast, FIR penetrates deeply with a very uniform warming effect. Certain organic chemicals and minerals can replicate this effect.

Germanium

In the twenty years since it was isolated, Organic Germanium has been used clinically in many parts of the world to treat a wide spectrum of illnesses and has been the subject of extensive research in many disciplines: pathology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, oncology and neurochemistry. Organic Germanium has been used in a broad spectrum of regimes - on its own, with diet and stress counselling and as a drug in cancer trials, in conjunction with chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. The safety of organic Germanium has been well documented, as has its health promoting effects in many diseases, including cancer and arthritis. Case histories, and in some instances, clinical trials, have documented Organic Germanium's therapeutic effects in treating a number of conditions.

Menthol

Noted for its clean smell and soothing effects Menthol is a compound obtained from peppermint oil or other mint oils. Menthol is an essential oil and has local anaesthetic and counterirritant qualities. It is often contained in non-prescription products for short-term relief of minor sore throat and minor mouth or throat irritation. Menthol is also contained in combination products used for relief of muscle aches, sprains, and similar conditions.

Meridians

Acupressure and acupuncture points where stimulation or pressure can be applied which will affect specific parts of the body. There are twelve major energy meridians in your body. They run from the top of your head, through your fingers, and down to your feet. Meridians are vessels or channels that carry subtle energy through the body. Acupoints or meridian points are specific points on the surface of the skin, many of which evidence lower electrical resistance relative to the surrounding skin surface. It is thought that subtle energy from the environment enters the body through these portals. The acupoints interconnect along the meridians.

Poultice

Also called cataplasm. A poultice was originally made of a soft substance mixed to the consistency of paste and then spread on or between layers of cloth. Conventional poultices can be effective with inflamed tissues, infections, abscesses, boils, bruises, carbuncles, fibrocystic disease, fractures, enlarged glands, leg ulcers, sprains, sunburn, tumours, ulcerated eyelids, congestion and drawing out toxins, pus or embedded particles.

Pro-Bio

Short for Probiotic. This word has been around since the beginning of the nineties, but has only slowly started to appear outside technical contexts. It refers to the use of micro-organisms in a positive way to benefit health. They are usually consumed in specially designed foods that are variously called nutraceuticals, functional foods or FoSHUs (“Foods for Specified Health Uses”). An example is the way some people ingest bacteria in live yoghurt to enhance their intestinal flora and so aid digestion. Such harmless bacteria colonies are also being introduced into various environments to take up available resources and prevent harmful ones multiplying, a technique known as competitive exclusion.

Pyroligneous Acid

Pyroligneous acid is usually a by-product of the production of charcoal from wood. It is a dark, reddish-brown liquid that is composed mostly of acetic acid, but also contains methanol (wood alcohol), acetone, wood oils, and tars in varying amounts. Pyroligneous acid is also known as wood vinegar (see below). The Pyroligneous acid in Patch Factor is different from the usual wood vinegar as the production system is geared towards manufacture of the vinegar with charcoal as the by-product. This results in very high-grade vinegar.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a form of alternative or complementary medicine and involves a method of treatment using massage to reflex areas found in the feet and hands. Most commonly the feet are used as the areas to be treated. In the feet, there are reflex areas corresponding to all the parts of the body. These areas are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body in the feet, with the right foot corresponding to the right side of the body and the left foot corresponding to the left side of the body.

Sorbitol

Sorbitol is a naturally occurring ingredient found in many edible fruits and berries, such as mountain ash, cherries, plums, pears, apples, and even in seaweed. Sorbitol has many uses in consumer products due to its superior ability to retain moisture. It is often used in glycerine products because of its outstanding moisturising properties. Sorbitol also provides clarity and translucency to soap and is used in Patch Factor to make the powdered Pyroligneous Acid.

Tourmaline

The name Tourmaline has been derived from the Singhalese expression ‘tura mal’ which translates as stone of mixed colours and refers to the unique spectrum of colours displayed by this gemstone. Scientists are also intrigued by its physical qualities characterised by heating and cooling the stone to generate an opposing charge at one pole to the other, this pyro-electricity will also lead alternating polarity in the course of discharging. The effect of this energy is claimed to help break up energy blockages, which cause stress and anxiety and bring about calmness and clarity.

Wood Vinegar

Also known as Pyroligneous Acid (see above) it is a compound of vapourised tree sap and is associated with the flow of nutrients to branches and leaves. It is generally ascribed a purification and detox role having an authenticated pharmacological action.
